Wow. I can’t believe it’s already been a little over 1 year and a half since I’ve done any traveling. Like everyone else, I had to cancel my travel plans and invest in hand sanitizers and face masks. What a bizarre time.. with the number of vaccinated people increasing, I hope we can put this whole pandemic behind us soon.
After many months of talking about it, my friends and I finally decided it was “safe” enough to venture out into the city for another food tour. This time.. instead of wandering about, we wanted to be purposeful in where we stopped. Mainly for safety, but also because many local businesses have sadly closed down.
We started at the Original Pantry, a breakfast staple of Los Angeles. Nothing fancy or pretentious about it. We got seated at the counter and ordered a simple eggs, bacon, and pancakes.
After breakfast, we walked over to Laveta for some coffee. It wasn’t an easy or short walk, but it was nice to explore more of the city on foot and work off some of the calories.
Rested and caffeinated, we moved onto our next destination, Maxwell Chicken Rice. This place is a popup restaurant, so I’m not sure how long they’ll stay open for, but it is certainly worth a visit. The chicken is super tender and the dipping sauces they give you, really compliment the rice and chicken.
The next stop in our tour is Broken Mouth. We got a few different plates to try and unanimously voted that the chicken was the best. If you want to try something new, give this place a shot.
When somebody talks in “absolutes” you either ignore them or listen intently. When somebody says, Everson Royce Bar has the best hamburger in California. You have to try it out.. and try it out we did. Admittedly, we got there at the beginning of service so things weren’t exactly ready for us, but we got a few drinks and hamburgers to share. And I’ve have to say, that the hamburger was better than expected. I think I need to go back and try it again to give it a fair assessment.
We came to Bestia for our “main course” and it did not disappoint. We didn’t have reservations, but walked up when they opened asked if there were any seats available.. and there were! We got seated at the bar and had an amazing time. The food and drinks, albeit pricey, were worth it. Some notables being, the Margherita Pizza, the Ribeye, and the Old Fashioned. The ribeye and the old fashioned compliment each other very well.
Last stop on this tour was Pie Hole for a simple slice of Mexican Chocolate Pie. Just the perfect amount of sweetness vs richness. Definitely one of my favorite pies.. I wish Pie Hole was closer to me or maybe I don’t.. Hah.
